2013 Jersey Clipper Bursary

Applications are being invited for the 2013 Jersey Clipper Bursary following new funding that has helped to secure its future for the next four years. A keen boat-owner, Mr Philpott has been presented with the model of Jersey Clipper, previously housed in the Maritime Museum, in recognition of his gift and has arranged for the model to be prominently displayed in the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club at St Aubin.

In addition, the Island’s three former Harbourmasters – Capt Roy Bullen, Capt Brian Nibbs and Capt Howard Le Cornu – have jointly pledged an additional £600 to the Bursary funds, ensuring a further year’s award.

Now in its seventh year, the Bursary – originally a legacy from the three Jersey campaigns in the Clipper Round-the-World Race made possible through the generosity of Dandara, Les Pas Holdings and UBS – is designed to assist an Islander to bouncy castle for sale achieve a nautical ambition. This could be a trip on a tall ship, participation in a watersports competition or training programme, undertaking a marine biology field trip or competing in an ocean race – anything with a maritime theme.

Applicants of all ages are invited to apply for the 2013 award and the winner will follow in the wake of David Raimbault, a young member of St Catherine’s Sailing Club who won the 2012 Bursary.

David (13) used his £600 award to help with the travel costs of training and sailing his Optimist dinghy in the UK. The top-ranked Optimist sailor in the Channel Islands, he recently gained a place on the International Optimist Class Association Development Squad.

The deadline for submitting written applications for this year’s award is the end of May 2013. They should be no more than 200 words in length and should be e-mailed to philipjeune@gmail.com

Dinghy Park Day – Sunday 27th Jan – Working Party Volunteers Needed

Your committee has decided to launch a big “park push”, think of this as our New Year Resolution! Therefore on Sunday 27th Jan (weather permitting..) a team will be putting in more wooden rails for boat bows to rest on and to generally make the park area much more organised. We will also be sorting bouncy castle for sale out the fence in a similar way to the club house side. And will need support clearing rusty old trailers, removing old boats, cutting back the over grown brambles, applying wood treatment to the fence posts and finally digging to free up some more spaces! As you see it’s quite an extensive list for one day!

To achieve all this we need a large group of volunteers, ideally 15-20, already we are about half way there, but to really make the desired impact in one day some more offers of help would be very much appreciated.  The aim is to start work around 10:00 a.m., grab a well deserved lunch break, then finish off by about 3:00 p.m.  It should be good fun and hopefully not too strenuous. If you would like to help, please could you just e-mail Paul at paul.raimbault@jerseymail.co.uk so I can  plan the work and get a reasonable idea of the number of volunteers.  Thank you and happy New Year!
