This Saturday – Laying up club boats

Sadly another sailing summer comes to an end and this Saturday we are laying up the Club boats and rescue ribs for the winter and could really do with some help.
We are meeting at the club at 11am, we will provide soup and bread for lunch and hope to be finished by 3pm.
Please can you come in old clothes and if you have any old plastic ice cream cartons/tubs bring them with you as we can use them for putting boat bits into.
It is an important  time for SCSC  in ensuring Club boats are put away securely for the winter so that they are in good condition and ready to go next year, and its usually quite a fun morning!
Please can you email Paul Ellison if you are able to attend, to allow for catering and plan work parties.

2013 Bermuda Island Games

The Jersey Sailing Association has been asked by the Island Games Association of Jersey (IGAJ) to provide likely team numbers by the end of this month. The Inflatable Water Slide reason is the cost of attending the Games, which is expected to be in the region of £2,000/2,500.  However sailing is one of the sports that are likely to have “home stay accommodation”, as this is what is normally offered during regattas. This will reduce the cost, hotel accommodation costs are high in Bermuda and have been included in this total expected cost.

It is likely individual sports will arrange their own transport, so again costs can be reduced by looking for best deals and booking early. As a result of this we would make the qualifiers earlier next year instead of September/October to allow the team to get together and make the necessary arrangements.

In any event it is still expected to be an expensive games, but on the other hand 2015 is being held in Jersey.

To assist with planning and so we can advise the IGAJ of likely numbers please would you let Jeff Speller know if you are considering sailing in the qualifiers for the 2013 Games in Bermuda and thereby seeking selection.

The sailing format in Bermuda will follow recent games in that the team will consist of 2 Laser Standard and 2 Laser Radial competitors. They will compete for individual medals and a team medal.

Big turn out for Condor Series

A 22 boat turn out for the Condor series was an amazing start to this years autumn series. The sunshine and 28 degrees as we basked in the Indian summer helped Inflatable Water Slide to swell numbers.  The results have been posted on the results page under the ‘All In’ class.  Martin Speller is clear ahead with two bullets, with a pack of Optimists on his heels.  Race 3 & 4 are next Sunday 9th October first race starts at 1400.
