RYA Powerboat training

Are you a club member interested in gaining your RYA Powerboat Level 1 or 2 qualification?

We give in house experience on line with our duty teams for time on the water and club environment experience. If you would like to help out and gain valuable powerboating experience please get in contact.

We are also running RYA PB1/2 courses through the season – this is for our members and instructors serving the club.

RYA Power Boat training is available at the following levels

RYA Powerboat Level 1

A one day introduction to power boating.

This course is an introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.

Minimum Age: 12 Years. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate.

Course content: Launch and recovery, preparation of boat and crew, boat handling,  picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving and coming alongside, being towed

RYA Powerboat Level 2

This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.
It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken inland or on the coast and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly.

Minimum Age: Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate until they are 16

Course Content: Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard

Course dates from March ’26. Open to SCSC full members only

Full payment is required at the time of booking. Once confirmation of a place is received from Tony Cavey Training, refunds are not possible. Sailing, powerboat or first aid lessons missed, or courses cancelled, cannot be refunded or exchanged for alternative dates as our courses are mostly fully booked. In the event of lessons cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, we will endeavour to offer one alternative date. We are a non profit making training centre administered by volunteers.
