February newsletter.

Dear Sailors and friends,

As the new season is just around the corner, I would like to update you on a few changes and up coming events…
May I wish you all the very best for the 2018 season and I look forward to seeing both new, and familiar faces again at your club in the heart of Jersey’s premier dinghy racing and sailing venue.

Yours in Sailing, Justin.

Winter Training

The training schedule is as advertised on our 2018 sailing calendar and dutyman but the next few dates remaining are on Sunday March 4th and 18th at 0930.
As usual please let Bruno know if you can help, or volunteer on dutyman https://dutyman.biz/dmmain.aspx?id=S0002335 as we always appreciate notice before the events.
Sailors are reminded that hats, boots, gloves and either a good 5mm wetsuit or drysuit is required at this time of year, as weather conditions can and do deteriorate quickly on the water making what was a beautiful sunny warm day into a cold unbearable day if you are not fully equipped. please see gul.com and contact Karen Rowarth for your equipment order at exceptionally reasonable prices which the club has secured for members……. roworthkaren@gmail.com
Winter training is generally for those who have their own boats and who are aware of their own capabilities. Please ask the lead instructor if you are not sure if conditions are suitable for you or your sailor.

Winter Walk Sunday 25th February from the Clubhouse at 2pm.

The House Committee and Commodore have designed a social walk from the Club house to Rozel Bay Pub where transport will be given to drivers to pick up their cars after the event.
The walk will take in the lesser known areas of La Coupe and Saie Harbour as well as some of the parish’s rural roads.
It is anticipated that the walk will be around 2 hours, with some muddy climbs amongst woodland, so be prepared in appropriate foot wear!
We look forward to seeing all our members and their friends, please reply to St Catherine’s House <stcatherineshouse181@gmail.com> to give us numbers for transport vehicles.

Site developments

If you have been to the club recently you will have noticed some further changes around the club.
Firstly a new road layout which defines an area know as a virtual walkway. this enables our sailors to walk their boats against the traffic safely, but at the same time has taken away some of our parking on the road side adjacent to the club. The Ports of Jersey have agreed that their boat pound is available for use on busy days where members will be able to park their cars for the day of sailing. Otherwise please use the marked bays before the club as usual or the road side beyond the virtual walkway, but I respectfully ask you not to park in front of the Canoeist’s building or in front of the safety boats, thank you.

Secondly the steps have been constructed up to the sail loft, which just need a hand rail to complete. Thank you as always to Geoff and his team for their hard work, as well as Ports for their kind donation of £1000 towards the replacement project.

Thirdly is the levelling and hardstanding area of the safety boats, which many of you will have seen the paving slabs ready to be used. This project is next on the list to do and will start in a month or so whilst using the topsoil to level out the dinghy park bouncy castle for sale area nearest the club house where the water gathers. There may be some disruption to the boat parking area in the early part of the season but we will notify you if your boat is to be stored elsewhere for the duration of the works.

Summer Sailing Training programme

Over this winter, the training committee have been working really hard to provide a training scheme which works for our sailors and the club, which is sustainable, and provides the courses that best fit potential future sailors.
Dates of courses and sign up info are to go out on Monday February 19th at 0900hrs.

Look out for the info going out on line… www.scsc.org… there will a first come, first served basis.

Fitting out Supper at the clubhouse:  Saturday 24th March 7pm.

As every year we celebrate the beginning of the year with a fitting out supper which introduces families and friends back into the club after the long winter.
To book your place please contact St Catherine’s House <stcatherineshouse181@gmail.com>
The theme this year will be the “1980’s” with music, food and dress to suit!
