Gorey Regatta Hog Roast
Gorey regatta will be run on 1-2 June and the great news is that their will be a Hog Roast on Saturday at Les Pres Manor for all competitors. Even better news is that the proceeds will help raise funds for the new SCSC rib. If you have not been to a ‘Les Pres’ hog roast before then you must come to this one! It will be a very sociable evening and an opportunity for the whole family to make new friends and feel part of the St. Catherine’s Sailing Club Community. 100 Club Prize Draw
St. Catherine’s Sailing Club will be holding 100 Club monthly prize draws, from April 2013 through to December 2013. This is to help raise funds for the new Club training RIB.
Open day this Sunday – 21 April
This weekend is the clubs annual open day and we would love to see you all and please bring your friends and family. The club will be open from 12 to 4pm with racing for members at 2pm. We will have bacon rolls on sale from 12 -2pm and tea and cake 2-4pm.
Challenge Marité – Saturday 20 April
Centre Regional de Nautisme de Granville are coming to Jersey as part of the twinning between St Brelade and Granville, aboard Marité. The club’s youth and juniors are invited to race against Granville – a leading sailing school in France. Racing will be for Optimist, Laser 4.7 & Laser Radial classes. Easter Regatta – Cancelled
Easter Regatta is cancelled due to forecast and what will be impossible launching conditions. Revised date for event will be published ASAP, I am sure the Easter Eggs will keep!
he House Committee are away, so if anyone can spare a little bit of time to help out in the kitchen it would be greatly appreciated – just half an hour or so helping serving up or washing up. 2013 Jersey Clipper Bursary
Applications are being invited for the 2013 Jersey Clipper Bursary following new funding that has helped to secure its future for the next four years. Nigel Philpott, until recently the Island’s Director of High Net Worth Residency, has donated £1,800 to the Bursary funds, enough to cover the award for the next three years.
A keen boat-owner, Mr Philpott has been presented with the model of Jersey Clipper, previously housed in the Maritime Museum, in recognition of his gift and has arranged for the model to be prominently displayed in the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club at St Aubin.
In addition, the Island’s three former Harbourmasters Capt Roy Bullen, Capt Brian Nibbs and Capt Howard Le Cornu have jointly pledged an additional £600 to the Bursary funds, ensuring a further year’s award.

Now in its seventh year, the Bursary originally a legacy from the three Jersey campaigns in the Clipper Round-the-World Race made possible through the generosity of Dandara, Les Pas Holdings and UBS is designed to assist an Islander to bouncy castle for sale achieve a nautical ambition. This could be a trip on a tall ship, participation in a watersports competition or training programme, undertaking a marine biology field trip or competing in an ocean race anything with a maritime theme.
Applicants of all ages are invited to apply for the 2013 award and the winner will follow in the wake of David Raimbault, a young member of St Catherine’s Sailing Club who won the 2012 Bursary.

David (13) used his £600 award to help with the travel costs of training and sailing his Optimist dinghy in the UK. The top-ranked Optimist sailor in the Channel Islands, he recently gained a place on the International Optimist Class Association Development Squad.
The deadline for submitting written applications for this year’s award is the end of May 2013. They should be no more than 200 words in length and should be e-mailed to philipjeune@gmail.com
Fitting Out Supper – Saturday, 9th March – at the Club House
Come and join us in La Belle France at 7pm. There will be a French themed meal followed by the usual fun and games. (Vegetarian food available on request). There’ll be a prize for the best dressed. Racing rules evening
At St. Helier YC this Friday 1st March, 7.30pm. Chris Simon, representing the RYA, will be in Jersey this weekend and will give a talk on the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016 and to carry out race official training. The Racing Rules talk is free to all SCSC members and will be held in the Westward Inflatable Water Slide Room at St Helier Yacht Club. The programme is as follows:
Friday 1st March, commencing at 1930hrs – a talk about the changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing that came into effect on 1st January this year. The talk will last approximately an hour and a half and is aimed at all competitors with some content for race officers, all welcome to attend.
Maintenance Day – Sunday 24 March 2013
We will be getting all the club sailing boats out and rigged ready for the sailing season. We would be very grateful for all help received. House committee will provide tea/coffee and maybe even a cake, but please can you bring your own lunch and snacks. Please email us now if you are able to help.
