Boxing Day Race

Hope to see you at the club on Boxing Day.  Race starts at 10 – fingers crossed we have some good conditions to help blow away the excesses of Christmas day!! There will be buy cheap mechanical bull traditional mince pies and mulled wine in plentiful supply, together with a great chance for a catch-up chat with your sailing friends.

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM is 3:00 pm at the club on Sunday 29th November.  This is open to all ordinary club members and we hope to see you there. It’s an opportunity to reflect on all that the club has achieved this year and to hear our plans for the future. The agenda is here  AGM Agenda 2015   and any other business must be communicated to Nicky Westwood, the Honorary Secretary, by Sunday, 8 November. Tea and cakes will be available before and after the meeting.

Annual Dinner

Tickets are selling quickly for our annual dinner/dance and prize-giving which takes place on Saturday 28th at the Hampshire Hotel. It’s always a fabulous event, with a great menu and option to stay at the Hotel. This is the booking form Dinner-booking-form-15

Laying Up Day

We are storing away all the training boats for the winter buy cheap mechanical bull and having a general tidy up on the afternoon of Sunday 15th November, meet at the club at 2:00 p.m. If you are able to help this would be much appreciated.

The sail loft will be cleared out in order to make repairs to the roof over the winter, so please clear out any personal items that have been left there as soon as possible. We expect to dump much of the clutter in the sail loft to improve access.

Lasers Available to Charter

The club has been fortunate to benefit from the donation of 3 ex Island Games Lasers. These boats are near brand new with radial and standard rigs, with the possibility of 4.7 rigs as well.  To ensure they are well looked after, the committee has decided to offer them to club members on a 1 year charter basis at a cost of £650, which also includes insurance and berthing.  During this period you will be responsible for its upkeep. Annual Dinner

Our annual dinner and prize giving is on Saturday 28th November, once again at the Hampshire Hotel. This is always a fun night and an opportunity to celebrate all that has been achieved during the year.

Barts Bash

A reminder that Bart’s Bash 2 is 11:00 a.m. Sunday 20th September. Perhaps you were involved last year when 47 boats signed up at St catherines and were part of the worlds largest ever sailing race? There were 30,734 sailors worldwide and 100’s of clubs. It was a tremendous atmosphere.
We are planning for another great day with an emphasis on fun and participation, we want as many people out on the water and involved in this inspirational event as possible. Its a buy cheap mechanical bull race too, but to be honest that’s secondary on this special day in the sailing calandar. So even if you don’t sail that regularly or are a relative novice try to make an effort for this one, as that’s what the day is all about.

So sign-up now and lets put SCSC well and truly on the world sailing map again. There will be lunch after sailing (with a modest charge) so we can celebrate our achievements of the morning. An opportunity also to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Trust which is focused on encouraging young people to get involved in the wonderful sport of sailing.

Junior Fun Regatta

This Saturday from 10:00 a.m.  its the Junior Fun Regatta. So if you have attended a training course this year at what ever level we hope to see you there so we can celebrate!

St Catherine Sailing Club Fun Regatta

So things to remember;

  • Parents – ideally bring along some salad and a buy cheap mechanical bull few cakes to compliment a simple (very reasonably priced!) BBQ lunch, which will probably hot dogs
  • Kids – Sailing gear (as you can expect to get wet), fancy dress (e.g. pirate hat!), bunting to decorate boats.

The event is being organised by the clubs flag officers with support from your instructors. This is also a great chance to find out more about the club and talk about opportunities for the future during a relaxed and informal day!

Club Cruise to Les Ecrehous

If you would like to join the club cruise to Les Ecrehous this Sunday 2nd August (meeting at 10:00 a.m.) please e-mail  to get you name on the list. As RIBS and therefore spaces are quite limited this is for buy cheap mechanical bull club members only. Please bring your own packed lunch. If you can’t make it this time or end up disappointed due to limited space we are also planning the same cruise on the Sunday 30th August, when a few more RIBS should be available.

Annual Regatta Success

Challenging Conditions

It was a fanstastic annual regatta last weekend. Congratulations to all those that competed, we experienced quite challenging gusty conditions making for some exciting sailing and a range of spectacular capsizes (you know who you are!)

The Sailing and House committees both worked extremely hard to ensure things ran smoothly, with much support from other club members which was really appreciated. On Sunday we were inflatable boxing ring for sale also pleased to welcome into the club those that attended the St Martin’s Church Sea Sunday Service, it was all quite busy for a while. Martin Speller retained the prestigous Aurum Trophy as overall winner of the Regatta, Tom Pollard had a superb weekend finishing as top junior and second overall. It was also really pleasing to see our youngest sailors gaining some race experience as they competed for the Trophy de Paris, well done to Jack Horton who was the winner. Logicalis Gorey Regatta

Fantastic Sailing Sat 26th – Sun 27th Jul

The Logicalis Gorey Regatta is fast approaching so a reminder to get your entry form in soon which is available from at along with full details of this Regatta which was first established in 1857 and is one of the oldest in the world. It’s always a fantastic weekend of sailing and the time when Gorey beach becomes a home from home for St Catherines sailors.

Level 1 Power Boat Training

One space remaining 5th August

The training centre has one more space on the next level 1 powerboat course which will be held on Wednesday 5th August. The one-day course is aimed at children aged 12 and 13.  It is an introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.  Please email for further details about this and our other courses.

Annual CI Masters Competition

This has been a really enjoyable event for a number of years, with friendly inter-Island racing  with fellow masters, there is always excellent hospitality too at GYC.

Youngsters 15 years or under go free (up to two per accompanying adult) provided tickets for them are requested when ordering adult tickets.

Tickets can be printed at home, delivered by post, or collected at the Show. Because tickets ordered via postal delivery could take up to 7 days to arrive, those purchased at short notice can be collected on arrival from the advance ticket box office at the main entrance. The most expedient option, for those ordering tickets over the Internet, is to use the website’s ‘Print at Home’ facility.

When booking you will be asked to select the day you expect to visit. This is merely to help the organiser predict visitor numbers for logistical purposes. The tickets you receive will be valid for ANY single day including Preview Day.



Annual Regatta 10th – 12th July


Our biggest regatta of the year is this coming weekend. The sailing committee has organised the traditional programme of racing, it will be a very full weekend. The notice of race with entry form is here.

The entry form should be returned to Ian Moisan  as soon as possible. This also helps establish approximate numbers for catering purposes.

There is something for everyone! …including an ideal opportunity for our youngest sailors at RYA level 3/4 to enjoy sailing in a regatta by competing for the Trophy de Paris on Sunday.

The house committee will be very busy all weekend and need your inflatable boxing ring for sale support with providing the catering e.g. salads, cakes, also helping out on a rota basis in the galley.  Please e-mail Katherine Cadin asap at: with your offer of support,  Katherine will then explain what’s needed. Any help will be very much appreciated and is essential if the weekend is to run smoothly.

I’m sure Ian would also appreciate any offers of help either on the water or the slipway with launching and recovery his e-mail is

Island Games

Huge congratulations to the Jersey Sailing and Windsurfing teams for their great performances and for making us all proud. So many people pulled together to make these games such a huge success. What a superb advert for Jersey, the place and its people. I feel certain that the games will leave a lasting inflatable boxing ring for sale legacy for all the sports involved. For us sailors our laser fleet seems set to increase given that the vast majority of lasers used have now been sold locally.

Perhaps you saw the JEP’s double page spread of the laser standards in action.

There was even overhead drone footage providing a new and facinating angle on things

And the trak trak system means that its possible to replay exactly what happened in every sailing and windsurfing race.

Really enjoyable closing ceremony, brilliant atmosphere and a fitting tribute to an incredible games. Its hard to believe its all over, last week just flew by, but what a week it was!! I hope you are all feeling suitably inspired by all that sporting activity.

St Catherines Annual Regatta next weekend, details very soon, looking forward to seeing everyone there.











A big thank you to all those who have helped so far prepare for the Island Games. Still much to do….

All 52 new  sails have had  numbers, sponsors  and stickers carefully  applied  ready for the    competition.

Constable Pallot and the team at the Parish Hall  of St Brelade were able to offer the use of  their hall: For two days the hall took on the role of a sail loft. A team of volunteers  inflatable boxing ring for sale worked solidly and the task was achieved.

All  the 26 new lasers ( Each with standard and radial rig) have been unpacked and moved to the Fort

The event will be a major logistical exercise with start boats, rescue boats, onshore support and transport to and from the Fort all being provided.

Help is needed from 2pm on  Sat 20th June at St Aubins Fort to finally  assemble boats and make the site a welcoming place. Just turn up even if just to support and see the site!

The sailing venue at St Aubin’s Fort is taking shape.  Twenty six brand new laser dinghies await the arrival of the competing sailors. All that is needed now is fair winds!

The sailing event will take place in St Aubin’s Bay from Sun 28th June to Thurs 2nd July with results and coverage streamed onto screens onshore.
